ABOUT THIS PROJECT

EMCE Limited was pleased to offer full MEP design and site inspection services for the award winning Golden Square Freedom Park in Barbados, which was opened for the 2021 independence celebrations.

The 2-acre park was developed on a historically significant site where Barbadian National Hero Clement Payne held public meetings to mobilise and encourage disadvantaged Barbadians to resist oppression by the planter class and to demand better working and living conditions. His agitation is credited as the spark that led to the 1937 riots and the reforms that were implemented as a result.

The project incorporated several technological initiatives such as free WiFi throughout, live video streaming of the park activities to the web, and a 20ft LED display screen showcasing the history of the park along with advertising for revenue earning. The park is also prepped to include roof mounted photovoltaics later, which will reduce energy consumption and add to the green initiatives.

The park won Landscape Architecture Barbados at the Caribbean Property Awards 2024-2025.
